ABBA Costumes
It seems that ABBA Costumes are making a comeback for Halloween this year. This is most likely due to the release this year of the Movie version of Mamma Mia. The band ABBA was popular back in the 70s and had some smash hits like Dancing Queen, Super Trooper and of course Mamma Mia to name a few.
The musical Mamma Mia has been making the ABBA songs popular with new generations of fans. “You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life….” so say the lyrics. The ABBA Costumes are fairly easy to recreate because the band’s touring life spanned a good 10 years from 1972 to 1982 and could be properly categorized as the Disco era.

This is a look that comes close to some of the costumes worn by Agnetha and Anni-Frid while onstage performing. If you are considering doing a homemade Halloween costume then look around in some thrift stores for some mini dresses and a matching or coordinating scarf for your hair.

Misses Discolicious Dancer Costume

This is a costume that is very similar to the ones you will see in the Dancing Queen number in the Mamma Mia movie. If you go with an ABBA costume like this one, you can get by without having to pickup some Disco Boots like you will if you try to wear the mini skirt or mini dress look.

ABBA Costumes

This is a sample of the types of jumpsuits that ABBA wore. If you can’t find these matching jumpsuits to make your own ABBA costumes, then you can always find something in white and either paint or dye them to match, and then all you will need to complete your outfit would be matching belts, a good wig if your own hair is not long enough or a match and you’re all finished.

Some Abba Costume Tips

Lady Disco Wig
Price: 12.99
Hair - we were obsessed with our hair in the 70s.
The hair is an important part of pulling off the ABBA look. Agnetha had beautiful blonde hair similar to what you see at the right.
Frida had darker hair and it changed quite a bit, so you could probably go with something like the Lots of Layers Brunette Adult Wig.
Benny always had facial hair, so grow some if you can. If not, you can probably use makeup to get a close look. His hair can be closely approximated with this wig Shag Man’s (1970’s) Brown Wig and Bjorn would probably look something like this Shag Man’s (1970’s) Blonde Wig
Complete your ABBA costume with some Platform Boots and the right attitude and you’re sure to be a hit this Halloween.
